Darrell Waltrip's storied career in NASCAR's top level began in May 1972 at Talladega. Waltrip rolled onto the track in a 1971 No. 95 Mercury Cyclone, prepared by Holman Moody. Ironically, the chassis of this car was that of the original 1967 Ford Fairlane Mario Andretti drove to victory in the 1967 Daytona 500. This car was owned by Waltrip and sponsored by Terminal Transport of Owensboro, Kentucky.
